President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Team Nigeria on its outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, following the country’s impressive haul of 24 medals, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening sports development across the nation.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Team Nigeria concluded the Games with an impressive tally of 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, cementing the country’s status as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations.

President Tinubu described the athletes’ performances as a reflection of resilience, discipline and excellence, commending them for representing Nigeria with distinction on the international stage.

“Whether on the podium or through courageous performances in competition, every member of Team Nigeria has represented our nation with honour, dignity and pride,” the President said.

He noted that the experience gained by the athletes in Glasgow would serve as a strong foundation for future international competitions while inspiring a new generation of Nigerian sportsmen and women.

The President also applauded the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for their dedication in supporting the country’s athletes throughout the competition.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I express profound appreciation to our athletes, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, administrators and all those whose dedication and sacrifice made Nigeria’s participation at the Games possible,” Tinubu added.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to sports, the President pledged continued investment in infrastructure, athlete development and institutional reforms aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness on the global stage.

“My administration remains steadfast in its resolve to invest in sports development, strengthen our sporting institutions, improve training facilities and create greater opportunities for our talented athletes to excel on the continental and global stage,” he said.

Team Nigeria’s medal-winning performances in Glasgow have further boosted optimism ahead of upcoming international competitions, with the country looking to build on its Commonwealth Games success.
