The Taraba State Government has commenced the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to Local Government workers, primary school teachers, traditional council staff, and local government pensioners across the state.
The payment exercise, approved by Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, officially began on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with a flag-off ceremony in Ardo Kola Local Government Area. The event was led by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government, Traditional and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Godfrey Dame Andrew.
According to the state government, the exercise will continue simultaneously across all remaining local government areas to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their outstanding entitlements without unnecessary delays.
The commencement of the payment is expected to bring significant relief to thousands of local government employees, primary school teachers, traditional council workers, and pensioners who have been awaiting the settlement of their salary arrears.
Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and fulfilling its obligations to public servants and retirees. The government noted that the payment reflects its determination to promote accountability, strengthen public confidence, and enhance the welfare of citizens through responsible financial management.
Beneficiaries have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will ease economic hardship and improve the livelihoods of affected workers and pensioners across Taraba State.
