Supporters of Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas have commended his administration’s education reforms, citing expanded access to education and improved literacy outcomes as evidence of progress in the sector.

They pointed to the government’s declaration of a state of emergency in education, the introduction of free and compulsory education in public primary and secondary schools, and a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees for students in state-owned tertiary institutions as key initiatives aimed at increasing school enrolment and reducing the financial burden on families.

The supporters also referenced data they attributed to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), UNICEF Education Fact Sheet 2023, and the Federal Ministry of Education, claiming that Taraba State now ranks first in literacy among the 19 Northern states with a reported literacy rate of 72 per cent.

According to the group, the reforms have improved access to education across communities, strengthened public schools, and created greater opportunities for children and young people throughout the state. They argued that sustained investment in education is essential for promoting economic development, improving security, and preparing future generations for leadership.

The supporters called for continued backing of the state’s education policies to sustain the gains recorded so far. Meanwhile, the Taraba State Government has maintained that education remains a top priority, with ongoing investments in school infrastructure, teacher support, and programmes designed to improve learning outcomes across the state.
