Microsoft has increased the retail price of its Xbox Series X consoles in the United Kingdom, raising the price of the standard 1TB Xbox Series X from £499.99 to £669.99—an increase of £170.
The new pricing took effect on August 1, 2026, as part of a broader global price adjustment. Microsoft attributed the increase to rising manufacturing costs, particularly the sharp increase in the prices of DRAM and NAND flash memory chips used in its gaming consoles.
Under the revised pricing, the Xbox Series S (512GB) now costs £429.99, while the 1TB Series S is priced at £519.99. The 1TB Xbox Series X Digital Edition now retails for £619.99, and the 1TB Xbox Series X Disc Edition costs £669.99.
The company also confirmed that it has discontinued the 2TB Xbox Series X model as part of changes to its hardware lineup.
Microsoft said growing global demand for memory chips—driven largely by the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centres—has significantly increased production costs. The company noted that the price adjustment is intended to reflect current market conditions while supporting continued investment in the Xbox platform.
The increase comes amid broader pressure across the consumer electronics industry, where manufacturers are contending with higher semiconductor costs and supply chain challenges. Analysts say those factors are expected to keep hardware prices elevated in the near term.
To help offset the higher upfront cost for customers, Microsoft has expanded Buy Now, Pay Later financing options in selected markets.
