A driver has lost his life in a fatal road accident in Lagos after allegedly speeding and losing control of his vehicle, resulting in a crash that claimed his life and disrupted traffic along the route.

The accident occurred on a major roadway in the state, where emergency responders and traffic officials were immediately deployed to the scene to rescue victims, manage traffic flow and clear the wreckage.

According to preliminary reports, the driver was travelling at excessive speed when he lost control of the vehicle before crashing. The impact of the collision left the vehicle severely damaged, and the driver was confirmed dead at the scene despite efforts by emergency personnel.

Officials said no evidence of mechanical failure had been established at the time of the incident, adding that investigations would determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

The remains of the deceased were evacuated and taken to a nearby mortuary, while the damaged vehicle was removed to restore normal traffic movement.

Road safety authorities used the incident to renew calls for motorists to obey speed limits and traffic regulations, warning that excessive speeding remains one of the leading causes of road crashes across the country. They urged drivers to avoid reckless driving, maintain safe speeds and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.

The authorities also appealed to road users to exercise patience, remain alert behind the wheel and avoid actions that could endanger their lives and those of other road users. They stressed that responsible driving is essential to reducing road traffic fatalities and improving safety on Nigeria’s highways.

The latest accident adds to growing concerns over the increasing number of speed-related crashes recorded in Lagos and other parts of the country, underscoring the need for greater compliance with road safety regulations and continuous public awareness on safe driving practices.
