U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran is “begging” for a deal with the United States but remains unwilling to make the concessions needed for an agreement, as American forces carried out a 12th consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian targets.
According to Al Jazeera, Rubio said Washington remains open to negotiations but accused Tehran of refusing to take meaningful steps toward resolving the crisis. He warned that the United States would continue its military campaign until Iran changed its approach.
Rubio also said the Trump administration had adopted what he described as a “head for an eye” policy, signalling a more forceful response to attacks on U.S. personnel, military assets and international shipping. He said every hostile action by Iran or its allied groups would be met with a significantly stronger military response.
The latest wave of U.S. strikes targeted Iranian military facilities and infrastructure linked to missile and drone operations, according to American officials. Iranian authorities condemned the attacks as acts of aggression and vowed to continue resisting what they described as unlawful military action.
The continued bombardment comes amid escalating tensions across the Middle East, with attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz raising concerns about regional stability and global energy supplies. International leaders have repeatedly called for restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider conflict.
Despite Rubio’s remarks, diplomatic channels between Washington and Tehran remain open through regional mediators, although neither side has indicated that a breakthrough is imminent.
