Morocco has secured a fresh €150 million financing agreement from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support municipal development and strengthen local infrastructure across the country.

The new financing arrangement, agreed in partnership with Morocco’s Fonds d’Équipement Communal (FEC), represents a renewed commitment to supporting sustainable development at the local level and improving the capacity of municipalities to deliver essential services.

The agreement is expected to provide additional resources for financing development projects that respond to the growing needs of Moroccan communities, while supporting investment in infrastructure and public services.

The partnership between the AfDB and FEC is aimed at strengthening the role of local authorities in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Access to long-term financing is considered essential for municipalities seeking to implement projects that can improve living conditions and stimulate local economic activity.

The latest €150 million financing agreement also underscores the continued cooperation between the AfDB and Moroccan institutions in advancing the country’s development priorities.

Through the partnership, municipal authorities are expected to benefit from improved access to funding for projects that address key infrastructure needs and contribute to more resilient and sustainable communities.

The agreement comes at a time when municipalities across Africa are facing increasing pressure to expand infrastructure and public services in response to population growth and urbanisation.

For Morocco, the additional financing is expected to help strengthen local development efforts while supporting the implementation of projects aligned with broader national economic and social priorities.

The renewed partnership between the AfDB and FEC demonstrates the importance of collaboration between development finance institutions and national partners in mobilising resources for sustainable municipal development.

As Morocco continues to pursue its development agenda, the fresh financing is expected to play a role in strengthening local investment and creating better conditions for inclusive growth across its municipalities.
