Billionaire businessman and Chairman of First HoldCo Plc, Femi Otedola, has increased his equity stake in the financial services group to 21.96 per cent, strengthening his position as the company’s largest shareholder with an investment valued at approximately N77.6 billion.

The additional share acquisition reflects Otedola’s growing confidence in the long term prospects of First HoldCo and underscores his commitment to supporting the institution’s strategic transformation and growth agenda.

Regulatory filings indicate that the latest transaction further consolidates his ownership in the company, reinforcing investor confidence in the group’s future direction as it continues to implement reforms aimed at improving operational performance and shareholder value.

Market analysts said the increased investment sends a strong signal to the capital market, particularly at a time when investors are closely monitoring developments in Nigeria’s banking and financial services sector. They noted that major insider investments are often viewed as a vote of confidence in a company’s long term fundamentals.

Since assuming a leadership role in the institution, Otedola has consistently advocated stronger corporate governance, operational efficiency and sustainable profitability. His increased stake is expected to provide greater stability for the company as it pursues expansion opportunities and strengthens its competitive position in the banking industry.

First HoldCo, the parent company of First Bank of Nigeria and other financial services subsidiaries, has continued to implement strategic initiatives focused on digital transformation, improved customer service and enhanced financial performance.

Financial experts believe the latest acquisition could further boost investor sentiment toward the company’s shares, given Otedola’s track record of investing in and repositioning major Nigerian businesses.

The development also reflects renewed confidence in Nigeria’s financial sector, where institutional investors and major shareholders continue to increase investments despite prevailing economic challenges.

With Otedola now holding nearly 22 per cent of the company’s outstanding shares, market observers expect his influence on the group’s long term strategy and corporate governance framework to become even more pronounced as First HoldCo continues its drive for sustainable growth.
