Trump Threatens Strikes on Iranian Infrastructure Over Hormuz Shipping Attacks

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will strike Iranian infrastructure if Tehran continues targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions as fighting between the two countries intensifies.

Trump said the United States would “bomb and destroy” one Iranian bridge or power plant for every attack carried out by Iran against a ship in the strategic waterway using missiles, rockets, drones or other weapons. He made the remarks in a post on his Truth Social platform.

The latest warning comes as an interim ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran has collapsed, with both sides intensifying military operations amid a growing struggle for control of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.

Trump’s comments drew criticism from some international law experts and foreign leaders, who argued that deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure such as bridges and power plants could violate international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on civilian objects unless they are being used for military purposes.

The escalating conflict has disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one fifth of the world’s oil supply passes, contributing to renewed volatility in global energy markets and raising concerns about wider regional instability.

The White House has not indicated whether the threat represents a formal change in U.S. military policy, while Iranian officials have not immediately responded to Trump’s latest remarks.
