The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, FMBN, says it has delivered 1,590 housing units and disbursed N9.5 billion in home renovation loans to 10,601 civil servants in Nasarawa State.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMBN, Shehu Osidi, disclosed this when the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Osidi said the interventions were part of the bank’s partnership with the Nasarawa State Government to expand access to affordable housing and improve workers’ welfare.
He said the bank was also financing mortgages for civil servants to enable them to acquire houses under the state government’s Owner Occupier Housing Scheme.
Osidi added that FMBN had refunded more than N1.02 billion in National Housing Fund contributions to 5,462 retirees from Nasarawa State, stressing that the bank remained committed to ensuring that contributors received their benefits upon retirement.
He also commended the state government for issuing certificates of occupancy for the Renewal Housing Project and other proposed FMBN housing projects in Lafia, Akwanga, Gudi, Keffi and Toto.
According to him, construction at the Lafia site had reached an advanced stage, while work on other first phase locations would commence before the end of the third quarter of the year.
In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Sule called for stronger collaboration with FMBN to accelerate the delivery of affordable housing and critical infrastructure in the state.
Sule described the bank as a dependable development partner and urged it to extend more housing interventions to Karu Local Government Area because of its strategic proximity to the Federal Capital Territory.
The governor said ongoing infrastructure projects, including the 2.2 kilometre Mararaba flyover, would improve connectivity between Nasarawa and Abuja and open up communities for further development.
He also highlighted the economic potential of Akwanga, Gudi and Toto, citing their growing roles in transportation, education, solid minerals and agriculture.
Sule said improved housing infrastructure would support the influx of businesses and skilled workers while complementing the state’s industrialisation drive and efforts to address Nigeria’s housing deficit.
