The Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Hon. Engr. Mohammed Suleiman, FNICE, FNSE, has inspected ongoing road construction projects in Guyuk town and Chikila as part of efforts to ensure compliance with approved engineering standards and quality specifications.
According to a statement by the Adamawa State Government, the inspection was conducted to assess the progress of work, ensure strict adherence to approved road alignments and construction standards, and guarantee the delivery of durable infrastructure to the people of the state.
The inspection team included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mohammed Awal Ibrahim; the Director of Civil Engineering, Engr. Geoffrey P. Dariya; and the Ministry’s Chief Surveyor, Ishaku Medugu Iya.
In Guyuk, the Commissioner inspected the ongoing construction of the 2.5 kilometre Guyuk Bypass, where he supervised excavation works, the casting of drainage channels and culverts, as well as the filling and construction of the road embankment.
During the inspection, Hon. Suleiman directed the project manager to give special attention to the drainage system, particularly at points where water is discharged.
He stressed that proper water management was critical to protecting the road from erosion and other forms of damage, adding that a well designed drainage system would contribute significantly to the long term durability of the project.
The Commissioner and his team later proceeded to Chikila to assess the progress of ongoing road construction works along the axis.
Addressing the contractors, Hon. Suleiman urged them to strictly adhere to the approved road alignments and maintain high construction standards throughout the execution of the projects.
He emphasised the need for the contractors to deliver durable, credible and quality road infrastructure capable of serving the people for many years.
The Commissioner further urged them to ensure that the quality of work delivered was comparable to the standard achieved during the Phase I road construction works in Guyuk.
The inspection forms part of the Ministry of Works and Energy Development’s ongoing monitoring efforts to ensure that road projects across Adamawa State are executed according to approved specifications, timelines and quality standards.
The development reflects the commitment of the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to expanding road infrastructure, improving connectivity and delivering durable projects that will support economic activities and development across the state.
