Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has launched the distribution of farm inputs to 63,000 farmers across the state as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity, improve food security and support the livelihoods of farming communities.
The initiative is aimed at providing farmers with essential agricultural inputs to enhance their productivity and reduce some of the challenges associated with the rising cost of farming.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Mbah said the intervention demonstrated his administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a major driver of economic growth and sustainable development in Enugu State.
He explained that supporting farmers with the necessary inputs would help increase crop yields, improve household incomes and contribute to ensuring a steady supply of food for residents.
The governor also encouraged beneficiaries to make proper use of the farm inputs and remain committed to improving agricultural practices. He urged relevant stakeholders to ensure that the distribution process was transparent and that the inputs reached genuine farmers.
The programme is expected to benefit thousands of smallholder farmers and strengthen agricultural activities across communities in the state.
Agricultural stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important step towards empowering farmers and boosting food production. They noted that timely access to quality farm inputs could significantly improve productivity and help farmers achieve better yields.
The distribution programme is also expected to support the state’s broader efforts to promote food security and reduce dependence on food supplies from outside the state.
The governor further called on farmers to embrace modern and climate-smart farming techniques, stressing the importance of innovation and sustainable agricultural practices in achieving long-term food security.
With 63,000 farmers targeted under the initiative, the farm input distribution programme represents a major intervention in Enugu State’s agricultural sector and is expected to contribute to increased production, improved livelihoods and stronger rural economies.
