A former Bayelsa State governorship candidate has said the performance of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has highlighted the shortcomings of many state governors in delivering infrastructure and public services.
The former candidate commended Wike’s developmental projects in the FCT, arguing that his achievements demonstrate what can be accomplished through effective leadership, prudent resource management, and a strong commitment to governance. According to him, the pace of development in Abuja has become a benchmark against which the performance of some governors is being measured.
He noted that while many states receive substantial federal allocations, several have struggled to translate available resources into visible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other critical sectors. He urged state leaders to place greater emphasis on project execution, accountability, and policies that directly improve the welfare of citizens.
The remarks come amid ongoing public debate over governance and service delivery across Nigeria, with increasing calls for elected officials to prioritize sustainable development, transparency, and efficient use of public funds. Political observers believe such comparisons are likely to intensify as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections, with governance records expected to play a major role in shaping public opinion.
The former governorship candidate maintained that Nigerians are becoming more focused on measurable performance and urged political leaders at all levels to deliver tangible results that address the needs and aspirations of the people.
