Social media influencers Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate are expected to appear in a federal court in Miami, Florida, after being arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in connection with a British extradition request over new rape, human trafficking and other criminal charges.
British prosecutors have filed 38 new charges against the brothers, bringing the total number of charges they face in the United Kingdom to 59. The new allegations stem from statements by four additional alleged victims and relate to offences allegedly committed between July 2010 and August 2017.
Prosecutors said Andrew Tate faces seven additional counts of rape, along with charges of human trafficking, assault, indecent images involving a child and extreme pornography offences. Tristan Tate has been charged with two counts of rape and three trafficking related offences. Both men deny all allegations.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it is seeking the brothers’ extradition to the United Kingdom, where they are also wanted over earlier allegations involving three other complainants. Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas said British authorities remain committed to pursuing justice in cases involving violence against women and girls.
The brothers’ lawyer, Joseph McBride, described the allegations as “filth and slander” and said he expected the extradition request to be challenged in U.S. courts. Their appearance in Miami is expected to focus on the extradition process rather than the underlying criminal allegations.
Andrew and Tristan Tate also remain the subject of separate legal proceedings in Romania, where they were arrested in December 2022 on allegations including rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women. Romanian prosecutors continue to investigate those allegations after earlier proceedings were delayed because of procedural issues. The brothers have consistently denied wrongdoing in both Romania and the United Kingdom.
The case has attracted widespread international attention because of the brothers’ large online following and controversial public profiles. The outcome of the U.S. extradition proceedings will determine whether they are returned to Britain to face trial on the latest charges.
