Economic analysts have cautioned that persistent inflation and inconsistent policy implementation could undermine Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms, warning that sustained macroeconomic instability may erode investor confidence and slow economic recovery.

According to the experts, while recent fiscal and monetary reforms have been designed to stabilise the economy and attract investment, their effectiveness depends largely on consistent implementation and complementary measures that address inflationary pressures.

They noted that Nigeria continues to grapple with high food prices, rising transportation costs, exchange rate volatility and elevated production expenses, all of which have combined to weaken household purchasing power and increase the cost of doing business. The analysts argued that without decisive efforts to tame inflation, the benefits of economic reforms may not be fully realised.

The experts also expressed concern over frequent policy reversals and inconsistencies across key sectors, saying such developments create uncertainty for both local and foreign investors. They stressed that businesses require a predictable policy environment to make long term investment decisions, expand operations and create employment opportunities.

They urged policymakers to strengthen coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities, improve transparency in policy implementation and maintain regular engagement with the private sector. Such collaboration, they said, would help build confidence in government reforms and encourage greater private sector participation in economic growth.

The analysts further called for increased investment in agriculture, manufacturing and infrastructure to boost domestic production, reduce dependence on imports and ease inflationary pressures. They added that improving energy supply, transport networks and access to finance for businesses would enhance productivity and stimulate sustainable growth.

They also recommended targeted social intervention programmes to cushion the impact of economic reforms on vulnerable households, noting that protecting citizens from rising living costs would help sustain public support for the government’s reform agenda.

While acknowledging that structural reforms often require time to deliver meaningful results, the analysts maintained that consistency, policy discipline and effective communication remain essential to achieving long term economic stability. They concluded that maintaining investor confidence, controlling inflation and ensuring policy continuity would determine the overall success of Nigeria’s economic transformation efforts.
