The Rivers State Government has lifted the suspension on Wisdom Gate International School, Eligbolo, four months after the death of two year old pupil Wynne Akekue. The school was shut down after a bookshelf reportedly collapsed on the child while she was asleep in a classroom, raising concerns about safety standards.
The government said the school had met the required safety conditions and upgraded its facilities following an investigation by the Ministry of Education. It has now been cleared to resume academic activities, with a warning to ensure such an incident never happens again.
However, the family of the deceased toddler has criticised the decision. The child’s father said he was not informed of the outcome of the government’s investigation and argued that reopening the school while the case is still before the court and his daughter remains unburied is premature. He insisted that the family will continue to seek justice.
