Nigerians in the diaspora have launched a voter mobilisation campaign, tagged “Call Home for Continuity,” to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a report by The Guardian, the initiative was unveiled during a two day summit held in Houston, Texas, as part of the inaugural Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference and Inauguration Ceremony organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Diaspora North America (RHADNA).
The summit brought together diaspora leaders, political stakeholders and community representatives from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to discuss the role of Nigerians abroad in promoting national development and encouraging political participation.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the Chairman of APC UK and Chairman of Diaspora Chairmen, Tunde Doherty, and the APC USA Chairman and Special Adviser on Diaspora Coordination and Mobilisation to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Tai Balofin.
Speaking at the summit, Balofin urged Nigerians living abroad to actively contribute to Nigeria’s democratic process by encouraging eligible relatives and associates at home to register to vote, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and support the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He described the diaspora as an important constituency whose influence extends beyond financial remittances, noting that sustained engagement could help consolidate ongoing reforms and strengthen democratic participation.
Balofin also presented awards and inauguration letters to newly appointed RHADNA coordinators across North America, describing them as frontline ambassadors of the “Call Home for Continuity” campaign.
He called on Nigerians abroad to utilise their networks, resources and influence to mobilise grassroots support for the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Host of the summit and General Coordinator of RHADNA, Ambassador Semiu Ayoola Olanipekun, said the time had come for Nigerians in the diaspora to move beyond passive interest in the country’s affairs and become more actively involved in the democratic process.
According to him, the economic strength, professional expertise and family connections of Nigerians living overseas provide a strong platform for promoting voter participation and civic engagement across the country.
The organisers said the campaign would leverage the close relationships between diaspora Nigerians and their families across the 36 states of the federation to encourage voter registration, Permanent Voter Card collection and grassroots mobilisation in support of President Tinubu’s second term ambition.
They expressed confidence that the initiative would deepen political participation and strengthen the relationship between Nigerians abroad and the country’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
