Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved an upward review of pensions for retired civil servants in Adamawa State, directing that no pensioner should receive less than ₦50,000 as monthly pension beginning next month.
The governor announced the approval while featuring on the live entertainment programme, “Taba Kidi Taba Karatu,” aired on the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Yola, on Friday.
Fintiri described as unacceptable the payment of pensions below ₦10,000, saying such amounts no longer reflected the sacrifices of retired workers who dedicated their active years to the service of the state.
He explained that the pension review forms part of his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of both serving and retired civil servants, stressing that every worker deserves to retire with dignity after years of meritorious service.
According to the governor, his administration has consistently prioritized workers’ welfare through the prompt payment of salaries, implementation of promotions, recruitment of qualified personnel and the enhancement of pension benefits.
Fintiri said the pension increase was another promise fulfilled, assuring residents that his administration would continue to implement people centred policies and programmes that improve livelihoods.
He also reaffirmed that all ongoing projects initiated by his administration would be completed before the end of his tenure.
The governor listed key projects to include the International Conference Hall, the modern shopping complex, the NYSC Orientation Camp, the Mother and Child Hospital, road construction projects, educational infrastructure and other strategic investments across the state.
During his visit to the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, Fintiri inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the station’s studios and the installation of newly acquired FM and AM transmitters.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work and directed the contractor to complete the remaining installations on schedule to expand the station’s transmission coverage and improve service delivery.
Speaking on the newly inaugurated local government council chairmen, the governor urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering meaningful development projects and quality services at the grassroots.
He reminded them that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and should be responsive to their needs.
On education, Fintiri said his administration had continued to strengthen the sector through the recruitment of qualified teachers, prompt payment of salaries, renovation of schools and the provision of a conducive learning environment.
The governor further disclosed that the dualisation of the Jimeta Bypass would commence in October, adding that arrangements were underway to deliver 25 megawatts of solar power to boost electricity supply and stimulate economic growth in the state.
On security, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property through sustained collaboration with security agencies.
Fintiri also attributed the creation of new chiefdoms to improved local administration and enhanced security across many communities, noting that areas previously affected by insecurity had witnessed significant improvements.
He called on residents to protect public infrastructure, support government programmes and remain law abiding as the administration continues to pursue sustainable development across Adamawa State.
