An Anambra State High Court in Awka has sentenced popular native doctor Onyebuchi Okocha, widely known as “Onyeze Jesus,” to six years in prison and imposed a ₦20 million fine after finding him guilty under the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
Justice Jude Obiora ruled that Okocha misled members of the public by claiming he possessed supernatural powers capable of making people wealthy through unlawful spiritual practices. The court held that he promoted these claims through viral social media videos.
However, the court cleared him of two other charges, including allegations of ritual killings and money-doubling schemes, after the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove those accusations.
The conviction follows the Anambra State Government’s crackdown on suspected fraudulent native doctors and spiritual practitioners aimed at tackling insecurity and criminal activities in the state.
