A 45 year old man, Micheal Aduragbemi, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, over allegations of defrauding a woman of ₦3 million under the pretext of securing a Kuwait work visa.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the defendant appeared before the court on Wednesday on a three count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.
Aduragbemi pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant and other suspects still at large allegedly committed the offences between July and August 2025 at the Magbon area of Imeke in Badagry.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with the other suspects to obtain ₦3 million from the complainant, Funke Adeyinka, by falsely claiming he would process a Kuwait work visa for her.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant knew the claim was false and unlawfully converted the money to his own use.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate N. A. Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The court ruled that one surety must be a recognised community leader, while the second must provide evidence of tax payment, bank statements covering the previous six months and proof of means.
The matter was adjourned to a later date for further hearing.
