The three countries hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup have all been eliminated before the quarter-final stage, bringing an early end to the tournament hopes of the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The United States became the final co-host to exit the competition after suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Belgium on Tuesday.

Canada were the first of the host nations to be knocked out, losing 3-0 to Morocco last Saturday. Azzedine Ounahi scored twice before Soufiane Rahimi added a late third to complete the victory.

Mexico also fell in the Round of 16 despite a spirited display against England. The Mexicans pushed hard against an English side reduced to 10 men, but ultimately lost 3-2, with Jude Bellingham scoring twice for the winners.

The exits mean none of the tournament’s three host countries managed to progress beyond the Round of 16, despite all reaching the knockout stage on home soil.

The 2026 edition is the first World Cup to be jointly staged by three nations and the first to feature an expanded 48-team format.
