Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has pledged to deliver 620,000 votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, expressing confidence that the administration’s policies and ongoing development initiatives will continue to earn the support of the people of the state.
The governor made the declaration during a public event attended by government officials, political leaders, and supporters, where he reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said the target reflects the party’s determination to strengthen its grassroots support and build on the gains recorded since assuming office.
Governor Alia commended President Tinubu for implementing reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, improving infrastructure, and addressing national security challenges. He noted that while some of the reforms have presented short term difficulties, they are intended to lay the foundation for sustainable economic growth and long term national development.
The governor also highlighted several federal projects and interventions that have benefited Benue State, including investments in road infrastructure, agriculture, education, and healthcare. According to him, continued collaboration between the Federal Government and the state will accelerate development and improve the welfare of residents.
Addressing party supporters, Alia urged members of the APC to remain united and continue mobilising at the grassroots level ahead of future elections. He stressed that strong party organisation, effective governance, and sustained engagement with citizens would be essential in achieving the projected electoral outcome.
Political observers note that declarations of support such as this are becoming more common as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Although campaigns have yet to formally commence, party leaders across the country are already working to consolidate their support bases and strengthen internal structures.
Analysts also point out that electoral outcomes will ultimately depend on several factors, including voter turnout, public perception of government performance, economic conditions, security, and the credibility of the electoral process. They emphasise that while political endorsements may influence public discourse, the final decision rests with eligible voters on election day.
Benue State remains politically significant due to its large voting population and strategic role in Nigeria’s North Central region. As preparations gradually begin for the next electoral cycle, both the ruling party and opposition groups are expected to intensify efforts to engage voters and present their visions for the country’s future.
The governor’s pledge underscores the growing political activity ahead of 2027 and reflects the confidence of the state’s leadership in the APC’s prospects. However, the actual electoral outcome will depend on the choices made by voters, the conduct of political parties, and the overall democratic process during the election.
