Lagos, Nigeria Labour Party chieftain Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour has said his approach to the 2027 Lagos State governorship election will not depend on the momentum created by Peter Obi during the 2023 general elections.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Rhodes Vivour said his campaign would focus on presenting practical solutions to the challenges facing Lagos residents, rather than relying on the popularity or political influence of any individual.
According to him, the political environment in 2027 will be different from that of 2023, making it necessary to build a campaign rooted in grassroots engagement, community participation, and issue-based politics. He stressed that voters are increasingly interested in candidates with clear plans for improving governance, infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Rhodes Vivour noted that while Peter Obi’s presidential campaign energized many Nigerians and inspired greater political participation, his own ambition is centred on offering a distinct vision for Lagos. He said the focus would be on addressing the state’s unique challenges through policies designed to improve the quality of life for residents.
The Labour Party governorship hopeful also expressed confidence that continued engagement with communities across Lagos would strengthen public support ahead of the 2027 election, adding that his campaign would prioritize accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance.
As political parties gradually begin preparations for the next election cycle, Rhodes Vivour maintained that sustained grassroots mobilisation and consistent interaction with voters would be key factors in determining success at the polls.
