The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 19-year-old men over alleged illegal possession of a firearm and recovered a locally made revolver pistol with two rounds of live ammunition.

The suspects were identified as Rufai Ahmed of Hotoro Quarters and Aliyu Ibrahim of Kawo Quarters, Kano State.

According to the police, Ahmed was arrested at about 10.30 pm on October 11, 2026, after officers attached to the Farm Centre Police Division intercepted a tricycle along Sokoto Road over suspected criminal activity.

The police said a search conducted during the operation led to the discovery of a bag containing the locally made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition. Ahmed was subsequently arrested, while the recovered items were taken as exhibits.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.

Kiyawa explained that further investigations, ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, led to the arrest of Ibrahim, who was allegedly connected to the case.

The command said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to recover illegal firearms and tackle criminal activities through intelligence-led policing.

Bakori commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and professionalism. He also directed investigators to intensify their inquiries before the suspects are charged in court.

The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and preventing the circulation of illegal firearms across the state.

The command urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent crime and improve public safety.

The suspects remain under investigation, and the allegations against them have yet to be determined by a court.
