The Executive Chairman of Song Local Government Council in Adamawa State, Hon. Dr. Idris Yahaya, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to staff welfare after approving the conduct of the Unified Staff Promotion and Verification Exercise within the local government area.

The chairman gave the assurance while receiving the Education Secretary, Mrs. Hadiza Mohammed Nanu, and other education officials who visited him to express appreciation for the approval. According to a statement issued by his Media Aide, Alheri Musa Benti, on October 14, 2026, the decision was taken to reduce the difficulties education staff would face in travelling to Gombi for the exercise.

Dr. Yahaya explained that the approval followed a request from the education authorities, noting that holding the exercise in Song would help reduce transportation costs and other logistical challenges for participating staff. He also cited security concerns in Gombi and its surrounding communities as part of the considerations behind the decision.

The chairman stressed that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of public servants by creating a conducive working environment and supporting initiatives that improve their working conditions.

He further assured the delegation that adequate security personnel would be deployed throughout the exercise to safeguard participants and ensure the process proceeds without disruption. He also called on relevant stakeholders to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and cooperation for the successful conduct of the screening.

Earlier, Mrs. Nanu disclosed that more than 572 staff members were expected to participate in the Unified Staff Promotion and Verification Exercise. She commended the chairman for approving the use of Song as a screening location, describing the intervention as a demonstration of concern for the welfare of education personnel.

The Education Secretary also pledged continued cooperation with the Local Government Council, expressing appreciation for the administration’s support for the education sector and its workforce.

The initiative is expected to make the promotion and verification process more accessible to education staff in Song while reducing travel-related expenses and addressing logistical and security concerns.
