The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says artificial intelligence could help Asian economies manage the economic challenges posed by ageing populations and shrinking workforces.
As the region faces a growing number of older people and fewer working-age citizens, AI could improve productivity by automating routine tasks, supporting workers and helping businesses maintain output with fewer employees.
However, the benefits will depend on how effectively governments and businesses adopt the technology. Investment in digital infrastructure, workforce training and education will be essential to ensure workers can adapt to changes in the labour market.
While AI could help ease pressure on economic growth, it is unlikely to fully offset the challenges of an ageing population, making productivity improvements and broader economic reforms increasingly important for the region.
