Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, Lola Akande, has formally commenced her diplomatic mission to Denmark after presenting her letters of credence to King Frederik X at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.

The ceremony took place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, marking the beginning of her official diplomatic responsibilities in Denmark. Akande also serves as Nigeria’s ambassador to Finland and Norway, alongside her primary posting in Sweden.

During her audience with the Danish monarch, Akande conveyed the greetings and goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the King, the Danish royal family and the people of Denmark.

She reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Denmark and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The ambassador identified climate action, peace and security, and sustainable development as important areas for collaboration between both countries. She also commended King Frederik X for his commitment to environmental sustainability and climate stewardship.

Akande expressed Nigeria’s readiness to work with the Danish government, private sector and other stakeholders to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties.

Her diplomatic mission comes as Nigeria seeks to deepen international partnerships and expand cooperation with European countries in areas such as trade, investment, environmental protection and sustainable development.

Based in Stockholm, Akande oversees Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. Her concurrent accreditation allows Nigeria to maintain diplomatic representation across the four Nordic countries through a single resident ambassador.

The presentation of credentials formally establishes her authority to represent Nigeria in her diplomatic engagement with Denmark.
