A missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has killed 12 people and injured 309 others, escalating the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

The attack occurred on Saturday, October 10, prompting the suspension of airport operations and disrupting flights. The victims included Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshi citizens, an American and citizens of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

Saudi authorities have blamed the Iran-backed Houthi movement for the strike and described the attack as a serious violation of international law. The incident has raised concerns about the security of civilian infrastructure as fighting intensifies across the region.

On Sunday, the Houthis warned airlines, airport workers and passengers against using Saudi airports and airspace, signalling the possibility of further attacks. Houthi media also reported that Saudi Arabia had launched a strike on Sana’a International Airport, although Saudi authorities had not immediately confirmed the report.

US President Donald Trump said Washington was considering whether to join Saudi military operations against the Houthis. Any direct American involvement could widen the conflict, which has become increasingly connected to the broader confrontation involving Iran and regional security.

The renewed violence also threatens commercial shipping and energy supplies around the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital route for international trade.
