Russian technology company Yandex said on Friday that a drone attack had disabled several modules at its data centre in the Kaluga region, marking the second strike on its facilities in two days.
The company said no one was injured but warned that some services could experience disruptions. The facility is located southwest of Moscow.
The latest incident follows a Ukrainian drone attack on another Yandex data centre in the Ryazan region on Thursday. Two of the three supercomputers used to develop the company’s artificial intelligence models are housed at that facility.
Yandex said it was assessing the damage from Thursday’s attack and could not yet confirm whether the affected equipment could be restored.
The strikes come as Russia and Ukraine expand drone attacks against economic and infrastructure targets, including energy facilities, refineries, ports, commercial warehouses and data centres.
Russia has also intensified attacks on Ukrainian data centres and telecommunications infrastructure in recent weeks, including facilities in central Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Thursday that Kyiv was responding to Russian attacks on its own data infrastructure, describing the actions as reciprocal.
