A Gombe State High Court has sentenced two men, Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami, to death by hanging for armed robbery and the murder of a 35-year-old man, Murtala Rabi’u.

Justice Muhammad-Auwal Haruna, sitting at High Court No. 5, found the two defendants guilty of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide after the prosecution established its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The case followed an attack on September 18, 2025, at Garin Galadima village near Pindiga in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

According to the prosecution, the convicts armed themselves with sticks and hoes before attacking Rabi’u and robbing him of an Itel keypad phone and ₦7,400 in cash. They allegedly inflicted serious injuries on him, resulting in his death, before dumping his body in a maize farm.

The prosecution called two witnesses during the trial, while the defence presented one witness. After reviewing the evidence, Justice Haruna ruled that the prosecution had proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

The court subsequently convicted both men and ordered that they be hanged by the neck until they are dead.
