Boston Dynamics has appointed former Amazon AI executive Rohit Prasad as its new chief executive officer, placing an AI veteran at the helm as the robotics company pushes deeper into “Physical AI.”
Prasad takes over as CEO effective October 7, 2026. He previously served as Amazon’s Senior Vice President and Head Scientist for Alexa and Artificial General Intelligence, where he helped develop Alexa and later led work on Amazon’s Nova foundation-model family.
The appointment reflects Boston Dynamics’ strategy of combining advanced artificial intelligence with its robotics platforms to build machines capable of operating more autonomously in real-world environments. The company says Prasad will focus on turning its robotics technology into commercially scalable products for industrial and enterprise applications.
Boston Dynamics, owned by Hyundai Motor Group, currently develops Spot, its four-legged inspection robot; Stretch, designed for logistics and warehouse operations; and Atlas, its electric humanoid robot platform. Prasad is also expected to join the company’s board, subject to the relevant approval process.
His appointment comes as competition intensifies around AI-powered robotics, with manufacturers increasingly seeking to combine sophisticated AI models with robots capable of performing physical tasks in factories, warehouses and other complex environments.
