Plateau United technical adviser Gbenga Ogunbote has blamed “arrogance” for his side’s 2-0 defeat to Enyimba in their Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday Seven clash in Aba.
The Peace Boys travelled to the Enyimba International Stadium hoping to secure all three points but were undone by goals from Ifeanyi Ihemekwele and Richard Ezinne.
Ogunbote admitted that Plateau United started the encounter strongly and appeared to have control of the game before losing their momentum.
“It was unfortunate. We came here with a different notion, but unfortunately, we lost the game,” Ogunbote said after the match.
The experienced coach took responsibility for the disappointing result, insisting that his players allowed the game to slip away despite their promising start.
“We had the game in our hands, but unfortunately, through our arrogance, we lost it,” he said.
The defeat was compounded by an injury to key midfielder Ibrahim Yahaya, who Ogunbote confirmed will miss Plateau United’s next fixture.
“Another disappointing thing is that we lost a key player, Ibrahim Yahaya, to injury. He won’t be available for the next game,” the coach added.
Ogunbote, however, urged his players to quickly put the setback behind them, learn from their mistakes and focus on improving their performance.
“We have to move on, take the positives from the game, make amends, and move forward,” he said.
Plateau United will look to bounce back when they host Kano Pillars at the New Jos Stadium in their next NPFL fixture.
