The Anambra State Government has urged voters, particularly supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to reject former governor Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
The government made the call in a post on its official X account on Monday, describing Obi as a betrayal to the party that produced him as governor.
The state government alleged that Obi had worked against APGA since leaving the party in 2014 and urged its supporters to defend the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
It stated that voting for Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, would amount to weakening APGA, adding that supporters should not be deceived by someone who had abandoned the party.
The government also claimed that President Bola Tinubu had supported APGA while Obi backed opposition forces against the party.
Obi governed Anambra State from 2006 to 2014 under APGA before leaving the party for the Peoples Democratic Party.
He later contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party and subsequently joined the NDC ahead of the 2027 election.
The latest disagreement comes amid a separate dispute between Obi and the Anambra government over debts allegedly inherited from his administration. The government has claimed that Obi left about $123.77 million in external debt, while the former governor has rejected the allegation and disputed the figures.
