Rivian Automotive delivered a record 19,248 electric vehicles in the third quarter, beating analysts’ estimates as the company’s new R2 SUV began reaching customers.
The delivery figure was above the average analyst estimate of 18,001 vehicles and marked a significant increase from the same period last year. Rivian produced 19,751 vehicles at its Illinois factory during the quarter.
The R2, whose deliveries began in June, is central to Rivian’s strategy of reaching a broader segment of the electric-vehicle market. The company’s earlier consumer models, the R1S SUV and R1T pickup, were positioned mainly as premium vehicles.
Rivian maintained its 2026 delivery forecast of between 65,000 and 70,000 vehicles. The company had raised the forecast in July after reporting stronger-than-expected demand for the R2.
The electric-vehicle maker is expanding beyond its existing lineup as the US EV market faces weaker demand, tariffs and the end of federal tax credits. Rivian has also agreed to a long-term partnership with Uber, which includes up to $1.25 billion in investment and plans to deploy autonomous R2 vehicles as robotaxis from 2028.
Rivian is scheduled to release its third-quarter financial results on October 29
