The “Tinubu Must Go” campaign has emerged as a political mobilisation platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling for opposition parties to unite behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu.
One of the leading figures behind the campaign is human rights lawyer Abba Hikima, who has been identified as a convener of the movement. Hikima has written to major opposition presidential candidates, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde and Omoyele Sowore, urging them to work towards a united opposition front.
Another prominent organiser is lawyer Hamza Nuhu Dantani. He described the initiative as a public enlightenment platform rather than a conventional political organisation, saying its supporters are encouraged to educate others about the campaign and its objectives.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also become publicly associated with the movement after meeting Hikima in Abuja and endorsing the campaign. Atiku said the movement represented what he described as a growing demand for political change.
The campaign gained wider attention during the June 12, 2026 Democracy Day protests, when demonstrators in Lagos, Abuja and other cities chanted “Tinubu Must Go” while raising concerns over insecurity and other national issues.
The movement later organised an online poll involving opposition presidential contenders, further increasing its visibility in political discussions ahead of the 2027 election.
