The Nigerian Army has activated three new military formations in Kebbi State as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and improve its response to emerging threats across the state.

The formations are the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi, the 281 Tank Battalion in Yauri and the 381 Artillery Regiment in Kaoje.

The development is expected to expand the Army’s operational presence and improve command and control in areas affected by banditry and other security challenges.

The General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Koughna, represented the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the operationalisation ceremony.

Koughna said the new formations would position troops closer to vulnerable communities and improve response time when security threats occur.

He also directed personnel to maintain discipline, observe rules of engagement and protect civilians while working with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders.

The Kebbi State Government welcomed the development, saying the additional military presence would strengthen efforts to protect lives and property.

The government also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information about the activities and movements of criminal groups.

The activation comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Kebbi and the wider North West region.
