Moses Usor has admitted that expectations will be higher following his dream Super Eagles debut, with the LASK forward determined to build on his match-winning performance against Madagascar.
Usor made an instant impact last Friday, coming off the bench to score the decisive goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.
The 24-year-old needed just 14 minutes after his introduction to produce a brilliant individual effort that completed Nigeria’s comeback after George Ilenikhena had cancelled out Ehsan Kari’s opener.
Having finally made his long-awaited international debut, Usor said the experience was particularly special because his family was present and he was sharing the dressing room with players he had previously admired.
“I am still surprised. This is a dream because playing at this level, I think, is a big dream. It was a different feeling because my family was there too,” Usor said.
“Seeing everyone here, being in the same camp with players I have dreamt of playing with, I’ll give my best and add to the attacking force. I know Nigerians will be expecting more from me.”
Usor had previously received a Super Eagles invitation for the 2026 Unity Cup but was unable to join the squad because of injury. His second opportunity with the national team eventually arrived ahead of Nigeria’s opening AFCON qualifiers.
He rewarded coach Eric Chelle’s decision to introduce him against Madagascar with a crucial contribution, immediately putting himself into contention for a more prominent role in the team.
Nigeria will face Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L qualifier on Tuesday, with Usor hoping his impressive debut will earn him a starting place.
The forward will also be looking to use the confidence from his first appearance to establish himself among Chelle’s attacking options as the Super Eagles continue their pursuit of a place at the 2027 AFCON.
