Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared that no child of school age should be found roaming the streets of the state as schools reopen.
According to the Adamawa News Agency Governor Fintiri stated this on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the Catholic Church on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Yola.
He said children found on the streets without a valid reason would not be punished, but their parents would be traced and held accountable in accordance with the state’s education law.
The Governor said his administration had continued to strengthen the education sector through investments in school infrastructure, teaching personnel and instructional materials, stressing that parents must ensure their children take advantage of the available opportunities.
Fintiri described the Catholic Church and other religious institutions as important partners in the development of Adamawa, noting that government could not address the state’s challenges alone without the cooperation of traditional leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
He also highlighted investments in infrastructure, human capital development, peace and security, while urging investors to explore opportunities in agriculture, livestock and solid minerals across the state.
The Governor appealed to residents to maintain peace, unity and mutual understanding as Adamawa enters another political period, saying his administration was focused on laying a strong foundation for future development.
Earlier, the Catholic delegation, led by Very Reverend Anselm Kachalla and represented by Sir John Ndasaya, commended the Governor for his investments in infrastructure and human capital development. The delegation also acknowledged improvements in road networks and public facilities and assured the Governor of continued prayers and support.
