The National Association of Seadogs, popularly known as the Pyrates Confraternity, has distributed educational materials to primary and secondary school students in Ajura and surrounding communities in Obafemi-Owode Local Council of Ogun State.
The initiative, organised under the association’s Back-to-School project, provided beneficiaries with school bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers and water bottles. Students from St. John Anglican Primary School, Orile-Igbore Grammar School and Ilupeju Community Primary School were among those who benefited.
The organisers said the intervention was aimed at supporting vulnerable children and reducing barriers that prevent children from attending or remaining in school, particularly in rural communities.
The initiative comes as families continue to face financial pressure from the rising cost of essential school supplies. Organisers said the inability to afford basic learning materials can contribute to absenteeism, school dropout and other social challenges affecting children.
The association also indicated plans to explore transportation support for students in rural communities who travel long distances to attend school.
Community and education officials welcomed the intervention and urged parents, guardians and community leaders to support children’s continued education and ensure that the materials provided are used for their intended purpose.
