Iran’s armed forces are prepared to respond to any renewed attack by the United States, an Iranian army spokesperson said on Sunday, as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high over the conflict and the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
Army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia said Iranian forces were fully prepared for confrontation and warned that the United States would face greater damage if it launched another attack on Iran.
The warning came after US President Donald Trump said he had rejected an Iranian proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the fighting. Tehran had presented the proposal through mediators, seeking a negotiated path to de-escalation.
Iranian Army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami described the conflict as being at a critical and decisive stage. He said Tehran would not accept a situation in which Iran was prevented from trading while foreign powers continued using strategic waterways in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz remains central to the dispute because of its importance to international energy and maritime trade. Continued restrictions on shipping through the waterway have added pressure to an already fragile regional economic environment.
The latest statements underscore the continued uncertainty surrounding efforts to end the conflict and restore normal commercial activity through the strategic waterway.
