A former Ogun State governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Abayomi Hunye, has instituted a legal action against Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, over questions surrounding his declarations of state of origin in past electoral documents.
Hunye filed the case before the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking the court to examine electoral documents Adeola submitted under oath during previous elections.
Hunye’s legal team said the case was not challenging Adeola’s claim to being a Yewa indigene, but was focused on alleged inconsistencies in the senator’s previous declarations to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to Hunye’s lawyer, Olawale Victor, the court is being asked to determine what state Adeola declared as his state of origin when he previously contested elections in Lagos State, particularly whether he listed Lagos or Ekiti.
The lawyer said certified copies of the relevant INEC documents would be presented as evidence during the proceedings.
The lawsuit comes amid a growing political dispute over Adeola’s ancestry and eligibility ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Adeola had earlier threatened legal action against Hunye and PDP chieftain Folake Marcus-Bello over claims that he was from Ekiti State. He described the allegations as false and demanded evidence to support them.
Hunye, however, maintained that he was prepared to defend his claims in court, insisting that the issue should be resolved through documentary evidence and the judicial process.
The APC primary held on May 21 saw Adeola declared winner, while Hunye received no votes. Hunye has also questioned his alleged suspension from the party, pointing to his subsequent purchase of the governorship nomination forms and participation in the primary.
