Premier League Season-Ticket Holders Fear Losing Their Place to Tourists and New Fans

Premier League season-ticket holders are increasingly concerned that changing commercial priorities could push longstanding supporters down the ticketing pecking order as clubs seek greater revenue from new fans and football tourists.

The concerns come amid a series of changes across the league. Manchester United voided 685 season tickets this summer after finding evidence of unauthorised resale, while Arsenal has suspended almost 74,000 club accounts since launching a ticketing crackdown in 2024. Chelsea has introduced minimum attendance requirements for season-ticket holders, while Bournemouth moved 600 holders to make room for new hospitality facilities. Fourteen of the 20 Premier League clubs also increased season-ticket prices.

The Football Supporters’ Association says some supporters believe club executives increasingly favour one-off visitors who may spend more on premium tickets, food and merchandise.

Sports economist Dominik Schreyer, however, said season tickets remain valuable to clubs because they provide predictable revenue and help create the atmosphere that attracts global audiences and football tourists. He also noted that demand for Premier League seats far exceeds supply.

The debate highlights a growing tension between the traditional relationship clubs have with loyal supporters and the commercial pressures surrounding modern Premier League football.
