The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) says it has invested $82.74 million, equivalent to about N109.61 billion, in development programmes across Nigeria since establishing its country office in 2008.
KOICA Senior Deputy Country Director, Ki-Hyun Baik, disclosed the figure during a media engagement in Abuja, where the agency outlined the impact of its development cooperation with Nigeria.
Baik said KOICA is preparing a new five-year strategic framework for Nigeria that will guide its development cooperation over the coming years. The emerging Country Development Programme is expected to focus on areas including agriculture, youth employment, education and support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
The agency has previously worked with Nigerian institutions and international partners on programmes aimed at improving agricultural productivity, developing skills and expanding economic opportunities.
The new strategy is expected to build on those interventions while aligning future projects more closely with Nigeria’s development priorities.
The partnership comes as Nigeria seeks to attract more development financing and technical assistance to address employment, food security, human-capital development and enterprise-growth challenges.
KOICA’s expanded focus on agriculture and youth employment could also support efforts to strengthen productive sectors and create opportunities for young Nigerians and small businesses.
