The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and the Africa Trading and Distribution Company (ATDC) have signed a $500 million Global Credit Facility to strengthen commodity trading, logistics and distribution across African and international markets.

The facility will provide ATDC with additional trade-financing capacity to purchase and aggregate African commodities while funding transportation, warehousing and distribution throughout the trade cycle.

Afreximbank said the arrangement is also designed to support sustainable trade corridors, improve access to reliable sourcing networks and increase the availability of processed and value-added African products. The initiative aligns with efforts to deepen implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area and strengthen regional value chains.

ATDC operates in Egypt, Nigeria, Malawi and Zimbabwe and focuses on connecting producers, processors, manufacturers and markets. Its chief executive, Stewart Makura, said the financing would strengthen the company’s ability to aggregate supply, mobilise working capital and improve the movement of goods across regional value chains.

The deal comes as intra-African trade continues to expand. Afreximbank reported that trade between African countries rose 5.47 per cent to $213.8 billion in 2025, from $202.7 billion in 2024.

The facility is expected to support local processing, import substitution and manufactured exports while improving market access for African producers and strengthening the continent’s trade infrastructure.
