The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and GMind Academy are exploring a nationwide programme to strengthen artificial intelligence skills among teachers and education stakeholders across the country’s 774 local government areas.
The initiative proposes training 774 AI adoption specialists, with one specialist assigned to each local government area to help teachers and schools understand and responsibly apply AI in teaching, learning, assessment and other educational activities.
GMind Academy founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Success Ojo, said the academy was prepared to provide the training free of charge. Each participant would also receive two months of access to the GMind AI platform to gain practical experience with the technology.
The proposed specialists are expected to serve as local AI adoption champions, helping schools navigate emerging technology while promoting responsible use.
Ojo also proposed that teachers who complete GMind Academy’s Certified AI-Ready Teacher Programme could earn recognised professional development credits toward their continuing professional development requirements, subject to TRCN approval and applicable regulations.
The initiative comes as TRCN works to modernise teacher professional development and adapt education standards to emerging technologies. The council is also developing an AI-powered system capable of generating classroom resources from standardised lesson plans.
If implemented, the 774-specialist model would create a nationwide network capable of taking practical AI training beyond major cities and into schools at the local-government level.
