The Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Anambra State branch, has intensified efforts to curb the circulation of fake and substandard products, warning that the state must no longer serve as a dumping ground for inferior goods.

The association made the commitment during a two-day stakeholder sensitisation seminar in Awka, organised in collaboration with the Anambra State Government. The programme focused on securing trade corridors, strengthening commerce and unlocking opportunities in the blue economy.

IMAN State Director-General Obinna Moluokwu said the association was working with the state Ministry of Commerce and other relevant authorities to ensure imported goods meet required standards. He said the campaign would support safer commerce, improve competitiveness and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, represented at the event, encouraged continued collaboration between importers, government agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s trade environment.

State officials also linked product standards, secure supply chains, efficient logistics and access to the African Continental Free Trade Area market to Anambra’s ambition of becoming a competitive commercial and industrial hub.

Market leaders welcomed the initiative but called for similar sensitisation programmes in major trading centres, particularly Onitsha, where many major importers operate.
