Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has died at the age of 27.
Gerber died on Sunday, September 20, at a rehabilitation facility, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The cause of death has not been disclosed, and an autopsy was still pending.
The death was confirmed by a representative of Crawford and Rande Gerber, who asked for privacy on behalf of the family during what was described as a difficult and painful time.
Gerber was the only son of Crawford and Rande Gerber and the older brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber. He followed his mother into modelling, signing with IMG Models as a teenager and appearing in runway shows and campaigns for major fashion brands.
He made his runway debut with Moschino and later worked with brands including Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana. He also appeared alongside his mother in a Pepsi campaign for the Super Bowl.
In recent years, Gerber had spoken publicly about his experiences with mental health, depression, addiction and recovery. He used social media to discuss his struggles and created a series known as “Mental Health Mondays”, through which he encouraged conversations about issues that people often kept private.
His sister Kaia also spoke publicly about his struggles with addiction in an August interview, describing the impact his experiences had on their family and expressing pride in his willingness to be open about them.
Gerber’s death comes as his family had continued to maintain a largely private approach to his personal difficulties. Further details surrounding his death are expected following the completion of the medical examiner’s investigation.
