Yola South LGEA Trains 40 Teachers, School Support Officers on Safer Schools.

The Yola South Local Education Authority (LGEA), through its Department of School Services, in collaboration with the Fabel Foundation for Women and Youth Development (FFWYD), has trained 40 Guidance and Counselling Teachers and School Support Officers on inclusive approaches to supporting pupils.

The one day capacity building programme, held on September 10, 2026, at the LEA Community Hall, Yola South, was themed “Inclusive Guidance & Counselling Techniques for Stronger Minds and Safer Schools.”

Declaring the training open, Dr. Aliyu Sa’ad, Board Permanent Member II of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), who represented the Executive Chairman, Dr. Murtala Umar Babayi, commended the organisers and encouraged participants to apply the knowledge acquired to improve support services in their respective schools.

The training brought together education officials, teachers, traditional leaders and youth development stakeholders, with sessions focusing on practical ways to address pupils’ educational, social, emotional and behavioural needs.

Speaking at the event, stakeholders, including the Head of School Services, Mohammed Adamu; Director General of Fabel Foundation, Fatimah Usman Belel; Education Secretary, Yola South, Mal. Abba Adamu Bawuro Mustafa, and other education and community leaders, stressed the importance of strengthening counselling services in schools.

The initiative is expected to enhance the capacity of school personnel to provide effective guidance, promote inclusive learning environments and contribute to the wellbeing and safety of children across Yola South.
