Jamie Vardy has returned to English football after signing for Burnley on a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the season.
The 39 year old striker joins the Championship side as a free agent following his departure from Italian club Cremonese, where he spent last season in Serie A.
Vardy brings a wealth of experience to a Burnley side looking to improve its fortunes after a difficult start to the Championship campaign. His arrival gives the club an experienced attacking option with a proven record of scoring goals at the highest level.
The former Leicester City forward spent 13 years at the King Power Stadium, becoming one of the most recognisable players in the club’s history. He played a major role in Leicester’s remarkable Premier League title triumph in the 2015/16 season and later helped the club win the FA Cup.
Vardy left Leicester in 2025 after making more than 500 appearances for the club and scoring 200 goals across competitions. He then moved to Italy, where he continued his career with Cremonese.
During his time in Serie A, Vardy scored seven goals in 29 league appearances. Cremonese were eventually relegated, leading to his departure at the end of the campaign.
His move to Burnley marks a return to the English game and gives him another opportunity to compete in the country where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards.
Burnley will hope Vardy’s experience, movement and finishing ability can provide an immediate boost as the club seeks to climb the Championship table and strengthen its promotion ambitions.
The veteran striker is also expected to provide leadership to a relatively young squad. His career has been built around his pace, aggressive pressing and ability to make the most of opportunities inside the penalty area.
Vardy’s arrival also brings considerable experience of high pressure situations. He has played in the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League, while also representing England at major international tournaments.
For Vardy, the move represents another chapter in an extraordinary career that began outside the professional game before eventually leading to Premier League glory and international football.
He will now turn his attention to helping Burnley improve their position and compete for a return to the top flight.
