The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, identified as Usman Abubakar, over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in the Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis.
The suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged by the girl’s 48-year-old father at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, on August 26, 2026.
According to the police, the father alleged that Abubakar lured his daughter to an uncompleted building in the area on August 24, where he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the child.
Following the report, police operatives moved in and arrested the suspect. The command said Abubakar allegedly confessed to the offence during interrogation.
The victim was subsequently taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and necessary care.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged offence and assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, with the police saying he will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The command also reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against sexual violence and child abuse, urging parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases to the police.
